5 Reasons Affirmations Work

Posted by Saemone Griffin on

I’m a big believer in affirmations. I try my very best to update mine with what I’m working on and play/read them daily to stay on track. We hear a lot about affirmations, but do they really work?

The short answer is YES! Here are 5 reasons why the yes is so big for me:

  1. They set the tone for your day. We all have days where we wake up and we want to turn over and go back to sleep. Affirmations in the morning allow you to remind yourself of your purpose and switch up the tone for the day.
  2. They can change your outlook on life. To piggy back off of #1, a day turns into a week then a month then a year. Imagine how far you’ll come when you take the wheel and control your thoughts and self talk for a whole year!! Take it day by day and be gentle with yourself. Allow yourself time to see the changes and remember to express gratitude along the way for how far you’ve come.
  3. They center your thoughts. On a day to day basis you have a ton of thoughts. Between meal decisions, work, fun, family, and the random stuff that crosses your mind, it can get hectic trying to remember the positive thoughts you want to keep at the forefront of your mind. Affirmations takes those thoughts, organizes them, then allows you to center those thoughts for the day.
  4. Keeps your eyes on the prize. This is a big one! It’s easy to get distracted. Daily affirmations keeps you focused on the big picture.
  5. They eventually change your outlook on negative situations. I’m big on turning negatives into positives. It’s how I suggest for some affirmations to be made to begin with. When you intentionally feed yourself positivity, you can start to identify positivity in almost any situation. Not that you’ll be blind to things deemed negative or bad, but you’ll be able to look at things from a different perspective.

If you are able to, I recommend writing your affirmations on a mirror. Shorten it up so it will all fit. I have mine written in lipstick and it’s really easy to wipe off and clean up. I also love that my guests have access to reading some affirming words too. I also recommend recording your affirmations in the voice recorder app in your phone. Then you can create a morning routine where you’re able to play them while you prepare for the day. It allows you to be in the zone and hear yourself affirm these amazing things that you are. I don’t know what can be more powerful!
